March's Lion

March's lion has hit with avengence  in Redbush's world!  The wind is whipping the snow around across the deck and off the roof, up to 60 K.  Bonzi stuck his nose out of the garage this morning, bracing himself before going out.  It didn't take either Bonzi, or Bonzerelli long to decide why they were out there, then back in where it was warm.  The school buses were called off because of blizzard conditions.  It's a good day for Redbush to stay inside and work on her artwork.  She is avoiding the much needed house-cleaning!  The weather is supposed to get better later this afternoon.  Here's hoping!  Redbush has decided that the only thing that will cure the winter blues is making  her favorite chili recipe.  She will share it with you.  She hopes your weather is much better than hers.
Chili Macaroni
1 pound ground beef (or, Redbush uses moose meat)
2 medium onions, chopped (about 1 cup)
1 can of pork and beans ( 15 1/2 ounces)
1 can of kidney beans ( 15 1/2 ounces)
1 can of  Italian tomatoes ( 28 ounces) with herbs,or stewed tomatoes
1 can of tomato soup
1 chopped green pepper (optional)
1 cup uncooked elbow macaroni
2 to 4 tsps chili powder
1 tsp salt
1/8 tsp cayenne red pepper (optional)
1/8 tsp paprika

Brown beef and onions.  Stir in remaining ingredients.  Simmer until macaroni is tender (20-30 minutes).   6 servings

It's been too long since I had chili. I will use venison instead of moose, though.
I would have liked to stay home today, but although the rain was blowing sideways most of the day, it was warm. I had planned to take ashes outside today, since it has been warm enough for the fires to be out for two days, but I want the ashes to stay where I put them, so I didn't. And I went to town because it's Banana Wednesday, when the grocery has bananas for twenty-five cents a pound. Since my father eats bananas every day, it's good to keep to this schedule.

Oh, the weather outside is frightful.... sigh.

Hope your chili was good - it certainly sounds wonderful!

Solarity, we don't usually hunt deer as much as moose, but, I do like the taste of venison. Banana day wouldn't be good for my hubby as he is deathly allergic to bananas. He found it out when he was in his late teens working in a lumber camp, ate 5 bananas, and his throat swelled shut. At that time, there was no going to the doctor, so, it's lucky he survived! I like them, though.

Thanks, Bag Lady! I always say to hubby. Too bad it wasn't as good as Boston's. He always laughs and says it's twice as good! It's looking like the weather is getting better. Anything will do!

Thanks, Melissa! Not everyone that I know likes moose, but, we practically live on it. It's really not that wild tasting, but, people who haven't tried it before find that it tastes wild compared to beef.
